| The
Gelbensande Hunting Lodge A
residence of the Rulers of the Mecklenburg Country |

 |
The Gelbensande Hunting Lodge was built in 1886/1887 according to plans by
the architect Gotthilf Ludwig Möckel. It served as a summer residency to Grand Duke
Friedrich Franz III. and his wife Anastasia Mikhailovna, granddaughter of the Russian
tsar.
One of the social peak events which took place in the castle was the engagement of
crown-princess Cecille, daughter of the Grand Duke with the Prussian Crown-Prince
Friedrich-Wilhelm. The Potsdam "Cecilienhof" was therefore built after the model
of Gelbensande. |
After Word War I, the castle was returned
to Grand Duke Friedrich-Franz IV in the course of the compensation of princes.
The castle stayed in the possession of the family until 1944.
From May 1944, it served as a military hospital and after that as a
tuberculosis-sanatorium and a hospital.
In the 80s, the municipal library and the veterans club were housed there.
Since 1994, it is property of the municipality of Gelbensande. |

purposes. Concerts, literary events and changing exhibitions are organised. Meanwhile
there is a good tradition of events in the castle grounds. Information about the planned
