 Ernst Barlach (1870-1938) ranks among the best of the
20th. century German artists. He was resident in Guestrow from 1910 until his death and the majority of his artistic and
literary works still remain in this city in Mecklenburg: they include the prominent
plastics and the monuments for Guestrow, Kiel, Magdeburg, Hamburg and Lübeck as well as
his dramas and prose.Barlach’s considerable legacy is housed in his last studio, the Atelierhaus on the Heidberg, and in the Gertrudenkapelle (Gertrudenplatz 1). The Ernst Barlach Foundation actively publicises the artist’s works through exhibitions for the public and specialist. |
