| A long time ago, at the mouth of the river Elde into lake Plauer See there was a Slavic settlement named “Plawe” (rafting place). It was an important place to cross the river Elde in Northern-Southern direction. This highway contributed a lot to the development of the place. When German farmers and craftsmen came to settle, the place grew in size and eventually became a town. The oldest document of the town of Plau am See is the confirmation of the town charter from the year 1235. |

For centuries, agriculture and crafts were the main resources of the town. The castle tower and the rampart from the 15th century are a significant building and symbol of the town of Plau am See. The tower has a dungeon with a depth of eleven meters. Our guests enjoy looking down and shudder, but they prefer to go upstairs and enjoy the view of the lake, the town and the landscape. The town has for centuries been destroyed time and again by fires, lootings and sieges |
| Industry came to settle here from the 19th century onwards. A machine factory, an iron foundry, a lime burning shop, brickworks and a cloth and net factory were built. In 1845, the first paddle steamer called “Alban” shipped the lake district up to Röbel. The town was connected by train track from 1882, the first lodging and Spa houses were built on the shores of the lake. |
